Drawer storage

Gridfinity that fills your drawer.

Measure the drawer and type it in. The baseplate fills it edge to edge, cut into pieces that fit your printer. Then paint your boxes on the grid, square by square.

How it works

  1. step 1

    Measure the drawer

Inside width, depth and height. The grid is whole 42 mm squares and the baseplate fills the space left round it.

  2. step 2

    Paint your boxes

Pick squares that touch on the grid, a line, a block or an L, and make them a box. Set a default height, then give any box its own.

  3. step 3

    Print the fit test

A small box and a strip of plate. Check the box drops in and lifts out, then print the rest.

The generator runs OpenSCAD in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Everything follows the open Gridfinity spec, so the boxes work with any other Gridfinity plate and the other way round.

Questions

What is Gridfinity?

An open, modular storage system by Zack Freedman. A baseplate with a 42 mm grid of pockets, and boxes whose feet drop into them. Boxes come in whole grid squares and 7 mm height units, so any box fits anywhere on the plate.

My drawer isn't a multiple of 42 mm

Few are. The grid takes as many whole squares as fit, and the baseplate fills the rest with a solid border, so it can't slide about. Put the border round the edge or all at the back and right.

What size printer do I need?

A 220 mm bed, like a Creality Ender V3. The baseplate is cut on grid lines into pieces that fit, and boxes are kept to 5 squares long. Set your own bed size if it is bigger or smaller.

Do I need magnets?

No. The feet hold the boxes in place on their own. Turn on magnets for holes for 6 × 2 mm discs, if you want the boxes to click down and stay put when the drawer slams.

Is it free? Do I need to install anything?

It is free and runs in your browser. The generator runs OpenSCAD locally, so nothing is uploaded and there is nothing to install.
